Cycling’s international governing body, Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and The Sufferfest have announced that the comprehensive indoor training system for cyclists and endurance athletes has been chosen as the Official Training App Supplier for the 2017 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. The agreement further strengthens the relationship between cycling’s governing body and The Sufferfest, who have been partners since 2010.

As Official Training App Supplier, The Sufferfest will provide athletes who qualify for the 2017 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships access to the full suite of training resources included with The Sufferfest Training Centre App. In addition, The Sufferfest has worked with its partners, APEX Coaching, to create a 10-week training plan designed specifically to prepare athletes for the road race and time trial events of the 2017 edition.

The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships is the final event of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, a collection of 20 races in 18 countries which gives masters and amateur racers from around the globe the opportunity to participate at the highest level of the sport. Qualifiers from each race will be invited to represent their countries in Albi, France, on 24-27 August 2017, for the chance to earn the coveted UCI World Champion’s rainbow jersey.

“This partnership allows us to fulfil our goal of helping time-crunched athletes achieve their potential while furthering the mission of the UCI to support and encourage cycling around the globe,” said David McQuillen, CEO of The Sufferfest.

McQuillen continued, “To prepare for an event as challenging as the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, athletes need to not only train hard, they need to train smart. Our structured workouts and training programs are designed to deliver maximum benefit with minimum time, which is exactly what aspiring UCI World Champions need.”

UCI President Brian Cookson said “The UCI is delighted to provide the participants of the 2017 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships with one of the most renowned training resources in the world. This agreement further enriches the fruitful partnership established in 2010 with The Sufferfest. We hope that athletes will make the most of this service for their final preparation before the event in Albi, France.”
