Each year, the XTERRA Trail Run Series includes hundreds of races across the United States and around the world. In the US, on most weekends of the year, the XTERRA team note that athletes can find an XTERRA Trail Run anywhere from Alabama to Arizona.

Most XTERRAs feature a short course and long course. Held in local and regional parks as well as in some of the most beautiful state parks in the US, XTERRA trail runs ‘provide opportunities to connect with nature, other runners, and most importantly, with yourself.’

This year, XTERRA will be touching down in states such California, Arizona, Alabama, Colorado, Tennessee, Texas, and Hawaii, to name a few. Each regional series has from three to seven races that runners can compete in to accumulate points. In every race, 100 points are awarded to each age group champ, with points awarded through 15th place.

The athlete with the most points – by gender and age group – after the last race in each XTERRA Trail Run Series earns the title of XTERRA Trail Run Regional Champion and earns free entry into the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship in Ogden, Utah, in September.

If a race offers two distances, only the longer distance awards XTERRA Series Points. There are also several independent XTERRA Trail Run races in the US for runners who are in a region that does not have a full series.

Around the world, XTERRA Trail Runs are held in exotic locations such as Costa Rica, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Taiwan, and many more.

At the end of the year, runners from all over the world will unite on the ‘beautiful and majestic island of Oahu for the ultimate trail run – the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship.’

Created in 2008, the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship has become one of the largest and most significant events in the fast-growing sport of trail running. This year, the championship race will include more than 1,000 runners, representing more than 15 countries and 40 states. Olympians, elite marathon runners, and professional triathletes, including Ryan Hall, Max King, Ben Bruce, Joe Gray, Melanie McQuaid, and Heather Fuhr have made their way to Kualoa Ranch in recent years.

The elite runners compete for US$10,000 in prize money at Kualoa Ranch, while the age-group runners compete for medals, prizes, and the prestige of being called an XTERRA Trail Run World Champion.

In keeping with the XTERRA spirit, the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship includes trail runs for athletes of all levels. In addition to the 21K championship course, there are separate 10K and 5K races, and there’s even an ‘Adventure Walk’ for those who just want to take a more leisurely stroll.

XTERRA adds… ‘Of course, there is also the allure of Hawaii… and Kualoa Ranch in particular. Located on the northeast coast of the island of Oahu, the sights at Kualoa Ranch are nothing short of spectacular. The 4,000-acre working cattle ranch offers arguably the most stunning natural landscape on the island. The scenic backdrop has been used as a filming site for such major movie productions as Jurassic Park, Godzilla, Pearl Harbor and 50 First Dates.’
