From 10-14 October 2018, the 35th edition of the Roc d’Azur – the largest mountain bike gathering in the world – will unite cycling enthusiasts in the Maures Massif region of south-eastern France. On the programme this year are ‘34 events for all skill levels and a bike show with nearly 300 exhibitors’.
Like each year, the Roc d’Azur is preparing to attract many of the best mountain bike competitors in the world. Among them are France’s top riders: Julien Absalon, Pauline Ferrand Prevot and Jordan Sarrou, who are regulars at the end of season event. They will participate alongside thousands of enthusiasts who make the trip to southern France. Over four days, the Roc d’Azur will feature a large range of disciplines such as: XC (cross-country), off-road triathlon and electric assisted bicycle (EAB). Children will have events of their own, from the age of 2, with the Pitch Kid Roc Draisienne.
New at Roc d’Azur 2018
The Roc d’Azur has some new things lined up this year. The new Gravel Origins 83 is ‘half-way between a road bike and a mountain bike [event]’; and the format will make its debut in the Var scenery – running through the Verdon Gorges, over the Estérel Massif and along the shores of Lake Sainte-Croix.
Striving to offer participants more peace of mind and support, all events will now provide mechanical assistance. Also, all along the course, four free of charge assistance points will be set up in some refreshment zones, in collaboration with INCM (National Cycle and Motorcycle Institute).
Prior to, or after the events, participants, spectators and anyone interested can visit several stands specifically installed to celebrate mountain biking and everything associated with it. In the event village, the organisers add that a visit to the bike show is a must:.. ‘It is the largest of its kind in the mountain bike genre with nearly 300 exhibitors representing all the biggest and most prestigious brands in the mountain bike world, the Tri-Roc and extreme sports.’ Also in the event village area, the Roc Test Camp by Canyon will offer free tests to visitors.
