Activity Wales Events has confirmed that it has teamed up with Welsh Triathlon Cymru – the national governing body for multisport in Wales. The move sees the whole Activity Wales Events triathlon events programme come under the national governing body’s licensing and permitting scheme.
Activity Wales Events (AWE) launched in 2010 and delivered the first ever IRONMAN Wales in 2011. The company noted that this ‘changed the dynamic of long distance racing in the UK almost overnight with a community push to generate unparalleled crowds.’
AWE now runs 26 events, the largest being the ever-growing, International Long Course Weekend that sees over 30,000 people descend on Pembrokeshire in West Wales each July. The company is now one of the UK’s leading multisport providers. It states that ‘this partnership will strengthen the [Welsh] Principality’s position in attracting international events in the near future.’
Beverley Lewis CEO of Welsh Triathlon Cymru said “Welsh Triathlon is delighted that Activity Wales Events will now be permitting through the National Governing Body. AWE deliver some wonderful multi-sport activities in iconic locations and our members can now take part, fully insured through their WT membership. There will also be greater opportunities for our volunteer officials to officiate at a greater variety of Welsh events. Welsh Triathlon will benefit from the partnership to help further develop multi-sport across Wales.”
Matthew Evans of Activity Wales Events added, “Since our inception we have strived to deliver world class experiences, both here in Wales and at our international events worldwide. This partnership opens up some incredible opportunities and we look forward to working with Welsh Triathlon Cymru to deliver some exciting and innovative experiences throughout the Principality.”
