The Brighton and Hove Triathlon 2019 on England’s south coast has been named an ITU Sprint Age Group Qualifier for the ITU World Championships, which will take place in Edmonton in 2020.
The Standard Distance race will also be a qualifier for the European Championships in 2020, the location of which has yet to be announced. The event offers up one of only a few draft legal races in the UK, which prepare athletes for similar conditions at the ITU World and ETU Championships.
John Lunt, who was Competition Manager for the London 2012 Olympic Triathlon and the Event Director for the Brighton and Hove Triathlon said, “This double qualification, at our event, has never been awarded before and it is a great honour to receive this. We’re very happy that all our hard work over the last three years has paid off.”
His business partner and CEO of the B&H Triathlon, Julia St John, said, “We think this is the perfect venue for a qualifier; right in the centre of Brighton, which is a beautiful location, right by the sea. A lot of the UK’s best triathletes live in the south and it’s fantastic to invite them to our event on the south coast. We are pleased to see Brighton get the recognition it deserves. It’s a great reward for everyone’s hard work.”
She continued, “The Brighton and Hove Triathlon is also looking for a new sponsor for 2019, which could be a great opportunity for either a new brand trying to establish itself in a mass participation sporting event or an established brand with a good synergy with Brighton and the south east and triathlons.
“With ITU qualifying status in 2019, entries are likely to rise considerably, bringing money & recognition to the event.”
