Cervélo and Team Sunweb have officially announced their new partnership for 2019 onwards. From January 1st, Cervélo will become the bike of choice for Team Sunweb’s men’s and women’s World Tour teams as well as their continental team and development squad.
“We’re very excited to partner with Team Sunweb; for us it’s the perfect match in ambition and performance,” explained Richard Keeskamp, Sports Marketing Director at Cervélo. “The team is word-class and active in a wide range of fields and disciplines with men, women and U23 programs – competitive in the one-day races, time trials, sprints and grand tours, which requires very specific equipment to be able to make the difference over competition.
“It challenges us to raise the bar even further in developing and delivering new and state-of-art technologies. We proudly launch the new S5, which heralds a new era for our company and stunning advances in aero and engineering technology for Team Sunweb’s riders. The partnership will allow us excellent R&D opportunities to continue to develop new technologies in close cooperation with the team, benefiting from their feedback and experience.”
“Cervélo shares similar values to our own and we’re proud to welcome them onto the team for next year,” said Iwan Spekenbrink, Team Sunweb CEO. “We’re driven to keep challenging to excel as a team and we’re always pushing to be the best we possibly can. The S5 race bikes revealed by Cervélo today emphasizes their commitment to helping us achieve that goal.”
Based at a new purpose-built facility in the Netherlands, Team Sunweb is comprised of a men’s and women’s team, plus a development program. The first of those riders to race on Cervélo bikes will do so at the Santos Tour Down Under in Adelaide, Australia, from 10-20 January 2019.
