Challenge Daytona rides with Pinarello as official bike course sponsor

Momentum continues to build for this year’s inaugural Challenge Daytona. Taking place on December 7-9, 2018, at Daytona International Speedway, Florida, the event has recently confirmed a local YMCA as presenting sponsor, as well as blueseventy as a swim partner. Now, the event organising team has unveiled Pinarello as official bike course sponsor.

As part of the sponsorship, Challenge Daytona has invited Pinarello pro triathlete Cameron Wurf to compete at this year’s event. Wurf most recently set the bike course record of 4:09:06 at the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, breaking his own previous record. This feat was made possible aboard Pinarello’s new triathlon bike, the Bolide TR+.

The Bolide TT (predecessor to the new Bolide TR+) was Pinarello’s original time trial bike. As the Bolide TR+, it has been adapted specifically for triathlon. Removing considerations for UCI standards enabled Pinarello to make a much more aerodynamic frame, while adding adequate nutrition storage.

“The Bolide TR+ sets a new standard for triathlon,” said Roman Brana, owner of Epic Cycles in Clermont, Florida, a key Pinarello retail partner. “It will be exciting to watch what athletes, both pro and amateur, can do with this bike. I expect even more records to fall.”

Wurf, a big fan of motor sports, added that he “can’t wait for the chance to race his Bolide TR+ on the world-famous speedway.” Challenge Daytona is a unique event ‘offering one of the best opportunities in triathlon to post a lightning-fast bike split.’

Triathlon fands can watch for Cameron Wurf on his Pinarello Bolide TR+ on December 9th. Fans may also view the bike in person pre and post event at the Epic Cycles booth at the Challenge Daytona expo.

Cicli Pinarello was founded in Treviso (Italy) in 1952 by Giovanni (Nani) Pinarello. Since 1975, the first victory in the Giro d’Italia with Fausto Bertoglio, Pinarello has ‘won all of the most important races in the world, including the Olympics, World Championships and the Tour de France.’

Taking place at the ‘World Center of Racing’, from December 7th-9th, 2018, Daytona International Speedway will welcome triathletes and triathlon fans from around the world to Challenge Daytona. The entire festival of events will take place at the approximately 500-acre motorsports complex, home of ‘The Great American Race’ – the DAYTONA 500.
