Challenge Wanaka is airing on mainstream UK television, on Channel 4, on Saturday 31 March at 06:40 GMT (Ch4+1 07:40), and via catch-up online on All 4.
The TV highlights show has been produced by Kinetic Media, working together with Dream Team Television.
As tough as it is scenic, this long-distance course takes competitors on a testing route through New Zealand’s Southern Alps. The event always attracts a strong international field in both the women’s and men’s pro races.
With over 1,450 age group athletes taking part in full and half distance events, plus aquabike athletes from 31 nations, over 900 junior athletes and ‘the most impressive elite athlete field to date’, Challenge Wanaka, billed as ‘the world’s most scenic triathlon’, took place on Saturday 17 February.
At this year’s Challenge Wanaka, New Zealand athletes also competed for the national title and ITU Long Distance World Championships qualification in the half distance and for the prestige of the full distance event. The event also hosted the NZ Aquabike National Championships, which ran concurrently to the two main events.
In addition, over 960 local school children lined up on Friday 16 February to take part in the 10th edition of Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka in the region’s largest primary school event.
