The organizers of the Gdynia Half Marathon have presented a new route as the event gets set for 2020 when the course hosts the IAAF Half Marathon World Championships.
Next year’s Gdynia Half Marathon, along with accompanying events, will take place on March 15-17, 2019. The Half Marathon World Championships (IAAF World Half Marathon Championships) will take place in Gdynia on March 27-29, 2020.
Almost 3,200 competitors from 21 countries are already on the starting list for the 2019 event.
There are a number of route changes compared to previous years. The start will take place again from Skwer Kościuszki, but it has been moved closer to the Gdynia’s Świętojańska Street. Kosciuszko Square is to be turned into a large finisher zone in which the athletes canl rest after the run.
“In 2019, we expect 10,000 players at the start, and in 2020 up to 20,000 runners from over 100 countries around the world,” said Michał Drelich, Managing Director of Sport Evolution, the organiser of the event.
“There is enough space in Kosciuszki Square to accommodate them all and provide runners with comfortable conditions both before and after the run. At Kosciuszko Square all facilities will be located, as well as a large tent hall with an area of 1000 square meters, where you will be able to warm up and dine.”
