Haute Route, the multi-day event series for amateur cyclists, has acquired the Gran Fondo National Series (GFNS) including its nine one-day gran fondo road cycling events in the United States. With these acquisitions, Haute Route, which is a subsidiary of event creation and management specialist OC Sport, builds on its existing international portfolio of thirteen 3-day and 7-day events. According to the company it ‘offers cyclists an inspirational and progressive pathway toward its multi-day events.’

The international Haute Route calendar currently includes four events in the United States for 2019, including Haute Route Asheville (May 17-19), Mavic Haute Route Rockies (June 22-28), Haute Route Utah (August 23-25), and Haute Route San Francisco (September 27-29).

Rémi Duchemin, CEO Haute Route and Co-CEO of OC Sport, commented on the company’s growth in the USA. He said, “In 2019 Haute Route will run more than 25 days of amateur cycling events in the United States, positioning us as the leading cycling event company in North America.”

Alain Lambert, Haute Route Executive Director in North America, added “It is our intention to keep growing the GFNS, including expansion into Canada, with a focus on delivering the world-class rider experience cyclists expect from Haute Route.”

All GFNS events use the timed section format pioneered by Gran Fondo National Series’ Director, Reuben Kline. Riders can compete in multiple timed sections each day and add up those times for their overall placing. This format allows cyclists of all abilities to challenge themselves, race with friends and win prizes, and ‘then socialize and enjoy the quiet roads and beautiful views in the best cycling destinations in the USA.’

Cyclists can also earn series points through their results in the nine GFNS events owned by Haute Route as well as GFNS partnered gran fondos, which include the Cache Gran Fondo in Logan, UT; Tour de Big Bear in Big Bear Lake, CA; Blue Water International in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; and the Vermont Challenge in Stratton, VT.

The series championship and a one-day Gran Fondo National Championship will be crowned at the Gran Fondo Maryland in 2018 and at the Jensie Gran Fondo of Marin in 2019.
