HOKA ONE ONE, a division of Deckers Brands, has unveiled its autumn/fall 2018 line. This includes: slight updates and improvements to its best-selling Bondi and Clifton offerings; the Torrent, a new lightweight, aggressive trail shoe designed with input from elite trail athletes; a performance-oriented update to its original trail shoe, the Mafate; the lifestyle-oriented but performance-based Hupana Slip; and the Hupana Knit Jacquard, a fashion-forward (but performance-based) adaption of the Hupana with a new woven upper.
This lightweight, performance-oriented trail shoe features aggressive lugs with sticky rubber for maximum traction. Evolved from the Speed Instinct, it features HOKA’s ProFLY technology, with a ‘softer, forgiving heel and responsive, propulsive forefoot’. A design borne from the demands of the brand’s top trail runners, it has a breathable, lightweight engineered mesh upper with a TPU outer encompassing the midfoot for added protection and support on rocky, technical terrain.
Updates to best-sellers
The Clifton 5 retains the weight-to-cushion ratio that has propelled it to the top of HOKA’s sales charts. In continuance of the successful Clifton 4, the 5 retains the midsole and outsole, but undergoes a slight pattern adjustment in the puff-print upper in order to increase breathability and create a more open, accommodating fit.
The Bondi 6 marks a slight tune-up from the 5; a metarocker inspired by that of earlier models aims to improve propulsion and efficiency through the footstrike, while an adjustment to the shape of the rubber pods on the outsole allow for better rubber coverage and outsole protection without added weight. Softer materials in the heel and collar package aim for a ‘remarkably comfortable step-in feel’.
The Evo Mafate is a lightweight, high-performance evolution of HOKA’s original max-cushion mountain running shoe. It retains the protective midsole and aggressive outsole of the Mafate Speed, but adds a MATRYX upper constructed from woven Kevlar for a resilient, lightweight package that can allow runners to ‘tackle brutal mountain trails for the long haul, without any unnecessary weight’.
Hupana Slip and Knit Jacquard
Both rooted in running performance, these new models offer another option for consumers who ‘value the aesthetic and fitness versatility of a product alongside its utility’. While HOKA’s FLY collection prioritized running performance first, these models ‘prioritize the active lifestyle while remaining quality running products’.
The Hupana Slip offers a laceless take on the Hupana, with elastic bands over the top of the foot and the heel to offer additional support, as well as a new raised 3D knit upper.
The Hupana Knit Jacquard is a new fashionable laced sneaker with a new, tightly-woven upper and a clean aesthetic. Inspired by the Hupana silhouette, it is an addition to HOKA’s line-up of active lifestyle footwear.
