IRONMAN has confirmed a five-year extension with Dorchester County and the City of Cambridge to host IRONMAN Maryland and IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman in Cambridge, Maryland, annually through 2023.
“We are thrilled to build on this longstanding partnership with the local community,” said Keats McGonigal, Senior Regional Director for IRONMAN. “IRONMAN Maryland had the best overall satisfaction in the 2017 IRONMAN Athlete Choice Awards because this venue truly supports our athletes and we look forward to coming back for years to come.”
Building on the 22-year history and success of IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman, IRONMAN Maryland was added to the global calendar of events in 2014. Both events tap into the waters of Choptank River for their swim courses and use Great Marsh Park for their transition areas.
Athletes in both races experience a flat and fast bike course that travels through the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. While Great Marsh Park also hosts the finish line for IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman, IRONMAN Maryland athletes enjoy the ‘unique and vibrant finish line at historic Long Wharf’.
“Dorchester County and the City of Cambridge enjoy hosting these great IRONMAN events,” said Amanda Fenstermaker, Director of Dorchester County Tourism. “The energy that the athletes, families and friends bring to the area spreads throughout the community and enhances the lives of everyone involved.”
IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman will host the North American TriClub Championship for the first time on June 9, 2019. The event will also offer 30 qualifying slots to the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.
The 2019 edition of IRONMAN Maryland will take place on September 29 and offer 40 qualifying slots for the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
