IMG, a global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, announced today that the Nation’s Escape Triathlon will continue its partnership with Gryphon Technologies, a leading Department of Defense (DoD) engineering and technical services firm. For the second straight year, Gryphon Technologies will be returning as the presenting sponsor of the Gryphon Technologies Military Challenge.
The Military Challenge is a division of the Nation’s Escape Triathlon dedicated to military personnel protecting the United States of America. The challenge is open to all active duty members of the military, veterans and civilian DoD participants. Athletes from the same military branch can compete as individuals or teams.
Set to take place on Sunday, September 9th, 2018, the Nation’s Escape Triathlon will again serve as a qualifying race for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Nation’s Escape Triathlon is owned and produced by IMG and is part of the Escape Triathlon Series.
“It is an honour and a thrill to see our nation’s military competing with the patriotic backdrop of Washington DC,” said James Leitz, Senior Vice President, Action Sports and Mass Participation, at IMG. “The tradition will continue, thanks to our ongoing partnership with Gryphon Technologies.”
In support of the Military Challenge, DoD personnel may use the code GRYPHON15 to receive US$15 off registration. In addition to its sponsorship of the Military Challenge, dozens of Gryphon Technologies’ employees will compete individually or in relays, side-by-side with active duty and veteran military personnel and DoD employees. Additionally, the first place male, female and relay team will receive a complimentary entry to defend their title at the 2019 Gryphon Technologies Military Challenge.
“We look forward to our second year as the presenting sponsor for the Nation’s Escape Triathlon Military Challenge,” said Gryphon Technologies Founder and CEO PJ Braden. “It is just one way we are able to honour and recognize so many who are committed to serving our country.”
West Potomac Park will host the challenging 2018 Nation’s Escape Triathlon Olympic distance race, which takes participants on a 1.5k swim in the historic Potomac River, near the Arlington Cemetery and under the Memorial Bridge; a 40k flat and fast bike ride past the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial and Kennedy Center; and on a 10k single loop run past the Jefferson Memorial, National Holocaust Museum, US Mint, Tidal Basin and more. Weekend activities include Olympic and sprint races, as well as a sports and fitness expo.
The Escape Triathlon Series features challenging courses, iconic race locations and top professional triathletes from around the world. Upcoming Escape Triathlon Series races include: Surf City Escape Triathlon, Philadelphia Escape Triathlon, AJ Bell London Triathlon, Nation’s Escape Triathlon, Lake Tahoe Escape Triathlon, Beijing International Triathlon and the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.
Each qualifying race will award the top male and female finishers per age group a race entry into the 2019 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon (entry fee the responsibility of the racer). A total prize purse of US$300,000 will be awarded to race winners throughout the Escape Triathlon Series.
