Riding into the winter months with PEARL iZUMi’s Fall 2018 road apparel

Offering a wide range of outerwear, bibs and its PI DRY technology, PEARL iZUMi is introducing an extensive autumn/fall 2018 line of new and updated jackets, jerseys and tights to keep athletes riding into the winter months.

With a focus on simplifying layering decisions, additions to the road collection are designed to keep riders comfortable no matter the weather conditions. The new pieces range from PEARL iZUMi’s warmest AmFIB jackets to bibs and tights with exclusive PI DRY technology.

PEARL iZUMi adds that some items ‘represent new thinking designed to simplify layering [such as] the P.R.O. Pursuit LS Wind Jersey, a lightweight design that acts like a jacket, which keeps riders warm in cool and windy conditions’. Using the minimal amount of material, it provides wind and water protection where riders need it most, the leading edges facing the wind, and ventilation across the back.

For the coldest riding days the new ELITE Escape AmFIB Jacket uses a similar design, with thermal panels strategically integrated on the back, helping riders manage body heat and perspiration during hard efforts. It also features a fabric technology that’s claimed to be 50% more breathable than traditional softshells.

For rainy days the new ELITE WxB Jacket and ELITE WxB Pant can help to ‘keep out water in even the most torrential downpours’. This 100% waterproof combo features a jacket with a contoured fit patterned to follow the shoulder rotation for a natural fit on the bike, and a pant with hook and loop tabs on the sides allow a fine-tuned fit.

The company’s PI DRY technology finds its way into the new Pursuit Hybrid Cycling Bib Tight, which features all of PEARL iZUMi’s cold weather fabrics – PI DRY technology on the back of the legs and lightweight, wind and water resistant AmFIB Softshell fabric in areas exposed to wind and road spray.

“We want to help riders stay on their bikes for as long as possible,” said Alex Strouthopoulos, Senior Product Manager at PEARL iZUMi. “Focusing on how we can keep the rider consistently warm without compromising performance is a main focus for our new gear.”

AmFIB Jackets:

ELITE Escape AmFIB Jacket, US$180
‘Featuring technology that’s 50% more breathable than traditional softshell, and with Thermal panels strategically integrated on the back, it will help you manage body heat and perspiration during hard efforts.’ Other winter-worthy features include high water resistance, zip back pockets for storage that will fit an extra pair of gloves, and a drop tail hem to eliminate gaps and protect from road spray.

The women’s version of the jacket is cut aggressively for the cycling position with a tailored female shape. It’s scalloped at the waist, features a wider hip, and can lay totally flat and in place while pedalling. The shoulders and neck feature a lower, slimmer profile and the thermal fabric provides soft, next-to-skin wind and weather protection.

Lightweight Shells:

P.R.O. Pursuit LS Wind Jersey, US$140
PEARL iZUMi states that this item fits like a jersey but acts like a jacket, and it’s ready to handle the demands of cool weather training. Minimal fabrics provide wind and water protection without sacrificing breathability, thanks to summer weight jersey material on the back panel. The slim fit and aerodynamic profile is for cold weather training and fast group rides.

ELITE Escape Barrier Convertible Jacket, US$125
Versatile, this jacket can convert into a vest mid-ride, or even stuff into itself and, using an integrated strap, can be stored directly on a bike. Featuring a semi-form fit, it’s designed to be comfortable on and off the bike, and has two convenient hand pockets for casual use.

W ELITE Pursuit Hybrid Jacket, US$100
Billed as ‘the new go-to lightweight jacket of the season’ it is for protection from wind and spray. Its close, on-the-body feel and stretchy fabrics ‘give an insanely comfortable tailored fit, designed specifically for women’. It’s cinched at the waist and wider on the hips.

W ELITE Escape Barrier Jacket, US$90
Featuring wind and water protection, a full-length draft flap and a stow-and-go self-stuffing pocket, it’s designed to be portable and versatile. The 2-way zipper allows for on-the-fly ventilation, and a drop tail hem provides extra coverage to repel road spray. A semi-form fit tailored for the female body keeps this piece comfortable on and off the bike.

WxB Rain Wear:

ELITE WxB Jacket, US$160
Made for rain, this 100% waterproof jacket is purpose built to keep riders dry, fast and comfortable in the worst conditions. Lightweight and breathable, it features a contoured fit patterned to follow the shoulder rotation and arm position of a cyclist, to eliminate flapping in the wind and keep it quiet on the shoulders. The durable 2-way zip can release excess heat without compromising weather protection, and the long drop tail hem eliminates chilling gaps and adds protection from road spray.

ELITE WxB Pant, US$150
Lightweight and breathable, these 100% waterproof rain pants have elastic on the back of the waist and hook and loop tabs on the sides to allow a fine-tuned fit. A high-rise in the back adds protection from road spray while in the cycling position. With snaps around the lower legs for an adjustable fit to accommodate pants or tights underneath, and a long zipper at the ankle to slip over shoes, they can be worn over cycling or casual clothing. ‘Think of them as a rain jacket for your legs.’

Tights

Pursuit Hybrid Cycling Bib Tight, US$165
These wind and water blocking mid-weight tights are tailored specifically for the pedalling motion. Featuring water shedding PI DRY technology on the back of the legs and lightweight, wind and water resistant AmFIB Softshell fabric in areas exposed to wind and road spray, these tights aim to deliver warmth without a lot of bulk. Elastic cuffs are designed to pull on without a zipper, allowing these bibs to work with booties without the added pressure of stacked zippers.
