Strava takes a seat at The National Running Conference

The organisers of The National Running Conference in partnership with Running Imp have confirmed Strava as the latest name to get on board with the event, which takes place on Friday 18th January 2019 at Birmingham’s NEC.

Country Manager UK at Strava, Gareth Mills, will be speaking at The National Running Conference in partnership with Running Imp and leading the 09:45 session titled ‘Technology – The Social Network for Athletes’. He will be discussing community engagement, statistical analysis of the UK running market, global trends, emerging opportunities and more.

Strava was launched in 2008 and tens of millions of athletes across 195 countries now use the software to record data during fitness activities. It also acts as a social network where users connect, compare and compete against each other. Like many in the industry, Gareth Mills is himself a keen runner and cyclist who enjoys keeping fit whilst looking after Strava in the UK.

Gareth joins a line-up of speakers already confirmed for the conference agenda. These include: Nick Pearson, CEO of parkrun Global; Neil Venables, General Manager of Intersport UK & Ireland; Kate Dale, Strategic Lead for Campaigns at Sport England; and Alistair Cameron, CEO EMEA of ASICS.

International announcer, broadcaster and presenter Kris Temple has been confirmed as event host.

The National Running Conference in partnership with Running Imp is positioned as the first B2B conference of its kind. It aims to bring brands, retailers, race directors, official bodies and community sectors together under one roof to share knowledge, voice opinions and look at current and future trends in the running market.

Attendees will be able to connect with peers and listen to a variety of topics, with a view to preparing for the future and agreeing how best to deliver to running audiences.

The National Running Conference in partnership with Running Imp is a collaboration between: Rebecca Richardson, MD and Founder of Breathe Unity; Joe Williams, MD and Founder of UKRunChat; Mike Seaman, MD and co-Founder of The National Running Show; and Darren Pinder, Marketing Director and co-Founder of The National Running Show.

Rebecca Richardson, Director of The National Running Conference, said “We are delighted to welcome Gareth Mills as a speaker at The National Running Conference. Strava is synonymous with running, with athletes the world over using the social network to track their activity and connect with others.”

She continued, “Gareth is absolutely the right person to deliver the session on technology and it promises to be a fascinating look at the impact of the social network on the UK running market. We are proud to have a first-class line-up of speakers already in place for the inaugural conference and are looking forward to hosting everyone under one roof in the new year.”
