VGL Group, a logistics operator from Gdynia, on the Baltic coast of Poland, will for the second time support the organization of Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia, which takes place in Gdynia on 3-5 August 2018.
“The fact that we can be part of the team at Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia is primarily the result of our 18 years of experience in the industry,” said Katarzyna Jankowska, HR Director at VGL Group. “For years, we have been trying to prove that the essence of corporate social responsibility is particularly close to the mission and values of our organization.
“We want to support activities for the environment or community around us. And, despite the fact that we operate and think on a global scale, we do not forget about our local environment.”
The cooperation between VGL and the event has already started, a number months before race day, and is ‘based on comprehensive support of the competition from the logistics side’. VGL Group as a logistics partner will be responsible for transport, storage of food, beverages and all technical infrastructure elements ‘ensuring the safety and efficient organization of the event both before the competition, as well as the appropriate logistics security on the route during the event itself.’
During the organization of the previous edition of the event, leveraging its road transport expertise, VGL Group deployed several dozen trucks that were used to transport food and beverages, including 32 thousand litres of water, 8,000 litres of isotonic drinks, 800kg of bananas and watermelons, and 500kg of oranges and apples.
In addition, the logistics operator provided road transport for technical elements such as: 20km of tape, 12 refreshment points, 3,000 sq m of carpeting, 5km of fencing, 150 portable toilets, 2,700 sq m of tents, stands for 2,500 spectators, as well as power generators and footbridges.
Contract logistics was also an additional element of the cooperation. VGL Group has made space available at its distribution centre in Gdańsk, which acts a central hub for warehousing and distribution.
“The quantity and specificity of individual loads that had to be transported for the event can make a big impression,” said Sebastian Sołtys, President of the Management Board of VGL Group. “Although the logistics and security of the competition are services that we provide thousands of times each month, we feel very proud of the role we play at this event, and at the same time we feel our responsibility.”
He continued, “We know how important it is to have timely and well-stocked feeding stations to be able to provide exhausted athletes with energy and strength to fight against time and themselves. Each single bottle of water is just as valuable, because a triathlete will be depending on it on the race course.
“During our everyday logistics operations in the field of road, sea, air, railway or supply chain management, as well as during the organization of the IRONMAN event, we fully understand the expectations of customers, in this case, athletes and the race organizer, and we strive to provide the right quality and timeliness of logistics services.”
VGL Group is a leading Polish logistics operator with 18 years of experience. It offers a full portfolio of sea, air, rail, road transport, logistics and supply chain management services. VGL Group employs over 450 employees in sixteen branches in Poland and overseas.
