Video: OC Sport celebrates end of ‘biggest operational year to date’

Haute Route expands to the Middle East in 2019 with new Haute Route Oman

As 2018 draws to a close, OC Sport, the international event creator and rights holder, is celebrating the end of its ‘biggest operational year to date’.

In its 20th anniversary year, the company, which has bases in the UK, Switzerland, France, the USA and China, delivered 428 combined days of competition, in 19 different countries, for more than 56,000 amateur and elite athletes.

As the company looks ahead to 2019 and beyond, with a continually expanding portfolio of events in sailing, cycling, running, trail running and triathlon, OC Sport’s latest video looks back on 2018.

Heading to the trails with UTMB International
UTMB International continues to drive the development and expansion of ultra-trail running across the globe. For the first time in 2018, OC Sport and its subsidiary UTMB International supported the creation and organisation of new major international trail running events, inspired by the model and event standards established by UTMB Mont-Blanc.

The inaugural GAOLIGONG by UTMB established itself as a major event on the Asian trail running calendar. OMAN by UTMB, with 57 different countries represented at the start line, brought long distance trail running to the Middle East for the first time.

More than 500 runners have reportedly signed up for the third act of the UTMB International calendar, Ushuaia by UTMB, which will take place on 5th-7th April 2019.

Haute Route breaks new ground in China with Haute Route Qingcheng in 2019
Following the recent launch of new events in Oman and Mexico, the Haute Route Cycling Series continues its development beyond Europe and North America by expanding to China from 2019.

In 8 years since it was established, the Haute Route Cycling Series has become one of the world’s most prestigious series of multi-day cycling events for amateur riders. It offers a full calendar in 2019 with 14 Haute Route events starting in Oman in March and finishing in China at the end of October, as well as 9 single-day events in North America gathered under the Gran Fondo National Series label.

Going the extra mile in Switzerland and France
OC Sport endurance sports events organised in Switzerland and France include: the Harmony Geneva Marathon for Unicef, French Riviera Marathon (Nice-Cannes), Geneva 20km by Geneva Airport, La Tour Geneva Triathlon, National Special Games and Cycling for Children by Unicef.

For 2019 and its 30th edition, La Tour Genève Triathlon will be introducing a new race distance to the schedule: the HALF Triathlon. Positioned ‘for experienced triathletes and challenge-seekers alike’, the Half Distance Triathlon features 1.9km of swimming in Lake Geneva, 90km of cycling and 21.1km of running along the shores of the lake.
