Wildflower Experience 2019 aiming to reach original peak numbers

Motiv Sports has announced that registration will open on September 12th for the triathlon and festival weekend, Wildflower Experience 2019. The event returned in 2018 after a drought in Northern California ended. According to the organising team, ‘the comeback was so successful, many are predicting the ‘Woodstock of Triathlon’ will reach its original peak numbers in 2019.’

The Wildflower Experience weekend boasts a full line-up of triathlon race distances, several run events, a music festival, stand up paddle board events, and a three-day Outdoor Yoga Experience on May 3-5, 2019 at Lake San Antonio in Monterey County, California.

Demand for the event is expected to be high, and registration for all events is set to open on September 12th at 08:00 PST at www.wildflowerexperience.com. Early bird rates are applicable until October 9th. Registered triathlon clubs and last year’s participants will be getting an exclusive invitation as a thank you for supporting the comeback of Wildflower. The website contains more information about the weekend of events and camping and nearby lodging. New events will also be announced in the coming months.

“Last year was amazing and exceeded our expectations; both, the Long Course and On-Road sprint race sold out,” said Colleen Bousman, Race Director. “The campgrounds were filled and the music festival was lively. We are excited to bring back this world-class weekend and showcase how the event has evolved into a unique athlete ‘experience’ with a full schedule of races, lifestyle events, yoga, music, wine, craft beer and camaraderie for everyone to enjoy.

“It’s such a gift when you see your vision come to life before your eyes and everyone tells you they can’t wait to come back.”

In addition to the marquee long course event, the three-day endurance triathlon festival also includes Olympic Distance, On-Road Sprint and Off-Road Sprint triathlons, a Collegiate Championship, 5K/10K run, 10 mile trail run, SUP race and a variety of yoga classes and workshops. Additionally, participants will experience the iconic festival with live bands, a beer and wine celebration garden, a wellness marketplace, race clinics, exhibitor booths and outdoor activities throughout the weekend.

Wildflower started as a music festival in the early 1980s, a small-scale bluegrass festival and triathlon. Since then, Wildflower has grown into an annual event, attracting thousands of participants and spectators to the three-day gathering. Over the years, the event has created a passionate and dedicated following amongst triathlon enthusiasts, many of whom flock to the California Central Coast each year to take in the intimate setting.

The unique atmosphere at Lake San Antonio led Paula Newby-Fraser, a five-time winner of the event, to dub Wildflower, the ‘Woodstock of Triathlon’. In 2019, the organising team add that ‘Wildflower continues to bring the finest triathlon festival in the world, with special access to the lake for training weekends and an exciting ‘race-cation’ in 2019.’
