Motiv Sports has announced the full festival line-up for the iconic Wildflower Experience. The 35th annual event, taking place this year on May 4-6, is renowned for its triathlon and festival experience, which will feature local musicians, restaurateurs and businesses. Over 5,000 athletes and 15,000 spectators are expected to return to the campgrounds and race course at Lake San Antonio in Monterey, CA.

“It has been a joy to watch this race transform into an event that celebrates, family, fitness, healthy lifestyles and the culture of California’s’ Wine country,” said Race Director, Colleen Bousman. “This year’s Wildflower Experience is going to be epic and we are proud to highlight the food, music, wellness, wine, and zest for life that is so representative of the Central Coast.”

Wildflower for everyone
At the centre of the Wildflower Experience are the Wildflower Long Course, Olympic Distance and Sprint Triathlon races. In addition to the races – which attract some of the country’s top triathletes – the weekend ‘promises fun for the entire family, whether you are a seasoned athlete or are considering your first 5K.’

Wildflower offers a 5K, 10K and a trail run, stand up paddle board events, and outdoor yoga sessions throughout the weekend. Aside from the race events, the scenic outdoor venue includes nature hikes, race clinics, a marketplace and more including:

  • 80’s Tri-Geek party and organic food hosted by CLIF Bar
  • Wildflower Wellness Spa (massage, salon blow-dry & bubbly bar, festival braids)
  • Hydration bar
  • Beer and wine tasting
  • Wildflower Artisian Marketplace featuring local artists
  • Paddle board and kayak rentals
  • ‘Camp Wildflower’ just for kids
  • Race clinics hosted by top professional athletes
  • Interviews on-stage with legends, pro athletes and challenged athletes
  • Nutrition talks & product demonstrations

Wildflower 2018 offers more premium camping options at Lake San Antonio than ever before. Along with traditional tent camping, athletes will be ‘glamping’ in canvas yurt-like Bell Tents or nostalgic Tinker Tin trailers; many plan to bring in RVs, trailers and camper vans to get the full experience.

This year, the Wildflower Festival will offer a wide variety of local musicians covering bluegrass, jazz, rock ’n roll, country, reggae and swing. These bands include: Moonshiner Collective, Mother Corn Shuckers, GhostMonster, Shawn Clark Family Band, Mark Adams, Kevin Graybill and Where’s Sweeny. Several gourmet food trucks will be on-site offering a variety choices to include: organic farm-to-truck dishes, BBQ & sides, specialty kabobs, crepes, smoothies, acai bowls, juice and several coffee vendors. Additionally, Firestone Walker Brewing Company and 15C Wine Bar will host tastings and spirits throughout the weekend.

“We are thrilled to be part of this iconic Central Coast tradition,” said David Walker, Firestone Walker Brewery Company co-founder and CEO. “Wildflower has grown tremendously since 1983, but it’s stayed true to its roots and its support of the local culture and people who call the Central Coast home.”
