UK-based sports nutrition firm Science in Sport (SiS) has expanded into the Chinese market. The company has reportedly launched an online store on Alibaba’s TMall Global Store, a large cross-border business-to-consumer (B2C) platform in China with over 575m customers.
“We are excited to be launching online in the world’s largest e-commerce market,” said SiS CEO Stephen Moon. Through TMall we now have access to one of the fastest growing markets in a low risk way.
“It extends our reach to an enormous, young consumer base where fitness is a priority and is being promoted by the Chinese government.”
He continued, “Our products appeal to elite and endurance athletes globally and we will continue to forge partnerships to build our brand, expand geographically to reach customers and provide retail channels to enable purchase and use.
“We are confident that our strategy will deliver consistently rapid sales growth in years to come.”
The new online store launched on 15 October with 27 products, including the SiS GO Energy, GO Hydro and REGO Rapid Recovery ranges.
SiS products are currently available in over 100 countries. The brand’s key markets include the UK, Italy and USA. In the UK alone, the value of the sports nutrition market, is reportedly projected to grow from £626 million in 2017 to £932 million in 2022.
In its interim six month results to 30 June 2018, SiS reported that revenues increased 20% to £9.93 million (versus H1 2017: £8.27 million). The company’s e-commerce platform delivered 30% growth across all markets. All e-commerce channels now account for 53% of total revenues (H1 2017: 51%).
SiS products are manufactured in the UK at the company’s Innovation Centre in Lancashire. All SiS products are Informed-Sport tested and accredited. SiS worked closely with the HFL anti-doping laboratory to d’evelop a world class evolved three-pronged testing system to minimise the risk of product contamination’.
