2019 Granfondo Stelvio Santini apparel from Santini

The 2019 edition of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini in Italy offers participants a ‘genuinely special race pack that contains the unmistakable official race jersey which is available in both men’s and women’s versions.’

Participants will also be able to pick up the new Granfondo Stelvio Santini-personalised Limar eyewear and helmets on display in the event’s race village to coordinate with the exclusive jersey, which must be worn throughout the race.

Organised by US Bormiese, the eighth edition of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini takes place in Alta Valtellina – from Bormio to the Stelvio Pass (province of Sondrio). The event takes place on June 2nd 2019.

  • Long Route: Bormio – Teglio – Mortirolo – Bormio – Stelvio > 151.3 km (4,178 m elevation change)
  • Medium Route: Bormio – Teglio – Bormio – Stelvio > 137.9 km (3,158 m elevation change)
  • Short Route: Bormio – Sondalo – Bormio – Stelvio > 60 km (1,950 m elevation change)

Entries opened on October 22nd 2018; and the Granfondo Stelvio Santini entry process is spread over different timescales – with prices rising as the number of places available diminishes. Between January 1 and February 28 2019, 1,000 places are available at an entry price of €70.

Then in March and April, 500 entries will be available at a price of €80. Lastly, from May 1 to 15, 200 latecomers can sign up for a last-minute start-line pass for €200 apiece.

The final rankings formula remains unchanged: one is calculated on the basis of the individual time trial with Queen and King of the Mountain at the Granfondo Stelvio Santini seeing polka dot jerseys awarded for each of the routes. The second ranking crowns the overall King and Queen of the Mountain for the individual climbs (Teglio, Mortirolo and Stelvio).

There will be prizes for the team with the largest number of entries and the team with the highest numbers of finishers too. No overall ranking is planned but the elapsed time between start and finish lines for all finishers will be published in alphabetical order.

The organisers have made wearing the official jersey throughout the Alta Valtellina race compulsory again this year. This is to ‘create a sense of unity and sharing in addition to making competitors easier for them to recognise.’

In addition to the Santini-produced event jersey, all riders that cross the finish line at the top of the Stelvio Pass will receive an exclusive ‘finisher cap’ presented personally by Pietro Santini himself.

“We designed separate men and women’s jerseys for the 2019 edition of the Granfondo Stelvio Santini,” said Paola Santini, Marketing Manager at Santini Cycling Wear. “They differ in size and colour to guarantee a perfect fit and are designed to suit the male and female body shapes.”

The central and lower sections of both jerseys feature an image of the mountain backdrop to the Stelvio climb in navy and blue. The upper sections are in different colours, with orange used for the men’s and fuchsia for the women’s. Both are slim fit in breathable fabric with rawcut sleeves.

Competitors select their size when completing their event entry and, if necessary, can also exchange their jersey by writing to info[at]usbormiese.com by May 15. As is previous years, in addition to the jersey, Santini has created a complete line featuring the 2019 edition design which will be available at the stand in the race village. The official jersey is part of the race pack that all participants receive when they collect their bib.

One of the new the 2019 Granfondo Stelvio Santini partner brands is Limar, a Bergamo-based company that has been producing cycling helmets since 1986. The brand has now applied its expertise to its dedicated Stelvio Santini models, which will be available with coordinating eyewear at the Limar stand in Bormio throughout the event.

The Limar 778 helmet is navy blue with orange detailing to coordinate with the men’s jersey and also in navy and fuchsia to compliment the women’s jersey.
