‘Additional products coming soon’ as Tacx trainers now available from Garmin

Garmin has announced that Tacx smart trainers, basic trainers, rollers and accessories are now available from Garmin with additional products coming soon. These products are available through Garmin following its acquisition of Tacx, a leading manufacturer of indoor cycling trainers, in April.

“Tacx trainers offer a highly realistic and accurate ride simulation, allowing cyclists to train in lifelike conditions, no matter the weather,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales.

“When our customers aren’t riding outside, they can bring their training indoors with a Tacx trainer, better preparing them for everything from race day to adventure rides and everything in between.”

Tacx smart trainers, including the NEO 2 Smart, FLUX S Smart, Flow Smart and Satori Smart, are available now. Offering immersive features and additional refinements, Garmin adds that the NEO 2 Smart is ‘one of the most quiet, realistic and accurate bike trainers available’.

Measuring data accurately within a claimed 1%, the unique motor design allows for a maximum sprint resistance of 2,200 watts and simulates climbs up to a 25% incline. Designed to simulate an outdoor ride while indoors, dynamic inertia controls a rider’s mass inertia and compensates for weight, speed and angle of inclination to make the ride feel as realistic as possible.

During a ride, descent simulation by the NEO 2 Smart ‘accurately imitates a downhill drive… while the new pedal stroke analysis feature measures the position of a rider’s left and right legs to analyze their pedalling technique and help them develop a more effective pedal stroke.’

The FLUX S Smart is positioned as a reliable, accurate and quiet direct drive trainer that features a heavy flywheel for a realistic ride feel. Measuring data within 3%, the FLUX S Smart is designed to provide power, speed and cadence measurements to help riders track their performance and progress.

To help train for big climbs, the FLUX S Smart simulates inclines up to a 10% gradient and powers sprints up to 1,500 watts. The FLUX S Smart is compatible with Tacx software and third-party training apps such as Zwift and TrainerRoad, but also allows cyclists to train in stand-alone mode without connecting to software or apps.

In addition to smart trainers, basic trainers including Booster, Blue Matic, and Blue Twist, as well as rollers and accessories are available now on garmin.com and come with a 2-year warranty. ‘Additional products will be coming soon.’

Garmin’s acquisition of Tacx was originally announced in February 2019. The company is clearly ramping up competition with rival Wahoo Fitness, which has built market share and distribution in the indoor space with its KICKR, KICK CLIMB and KICKR HEADWIND bike trainer devices. Going head to head with Garmin, Wahoo has also built a following for its outdoors products, such as its cycling computers – ELEMNT & ELEMNT BOLT.

Following its acquisition by Garmin, Tacx will continue operations at its current headquarters in Wassenaar, Netherlands, along with its distribution centre located in Vogt, Germany. Garmin is incorporated in Switzerland, and its principal subsidiaries are located in the United States, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
