The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has opened the applications process for its two key athlete development projects in 2019: the Athlete Scholarship programme and ASICS World Triathlon Team.
The Scholarship programme is dedicated to supporting talent that emerging National Federations have identified as Olympic prospects for Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and providing those athletes with placements developed between the NF and ITU. The funding will cover participation for those races that provide qualification points to the Games.
The ASICS World Triathlon Team is also focused on emerging-nation athletes who have already proven their potential to compete at Junior/U23/Elite World Championship, Continental or World Cup level and to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
There are five World Cup races that have been chosen as ASICS World Triathlon Team events in 2019. These are: Huatulco, Astana, Karlovy Vary, Weihai and Tongyeong, at each of which the costs of athletes’ travel, accommodation, meals and coaching will be covered. There is also the opportunity at each event for one coach – also from an emerging NF – to be a part of the team.
Full information on the ASICS World Triathlon Team, including all criteria and the application form, can be found online. The deadline to apply for a place at the Huatulco and Astana World Cups is 8 April.
Details on the ITU Athlete Scholarship project, including recipient requirements and a link to the application form can also be found online. Here, the deadline for applications is 22 March.
