Confirming its involvement at the highest level of cycling, the Bollé eyewear brand will be one of the major partners of the first event of the UCI WorldTour – the 21st Santos Tour Down Under.
The Santos Tour Down Under is an 11-day festival of cycling, running from 10-20 January 2019. It commences with the Santos Women’s Tour Down Under from 10-13 January, followed by the Down Under Classic (13 January) and men’s Santos Tour Down Under from 15-20 January.
The Santos Tour Down Under is the first event of the UCI WorldTour and starts the international pro cycling calendar. This year’s 21st edition will invite athletes and cycling enthusiasts to discover the diversity of the Australian landscapes around Adelaide.
Bollé has been a partner of the event for several years. The company adds that it takes an important role in giving information to the spectators and is involved with another attraction of the race – the publicity caravan across the several stages.
Bollé-sponsored riders at UCI WorldTour team AG2R LA MONDIALE will be equipped with Bollé’s SHIFTER cycling sunglasses. With a distinguishable retro-futuristic design based on the brand’s Chrono Shield model, SHIFTER is the latest addition to Bollé’s Performance eyewear range.
‘SHIFTER is a tribute to the great cycling history of Bollé and is available with Bollé’s latest lens innovation, Phantom. This cutting-edge lens combines three advanced technologies that revolutionise vision in any environment. Made of NXT material to deliver greater definition, Phantom lens features a molecular photochromic filter adapting to any light condition.’
Frontal air vents directly integrated into the lens help to ensure optimal air flow and prevent fogging. Hydrophobic treatment (so that water droplets roll off) and an oleophobic treatment (to repel dirt) help to keep the cyclist’s vision clear. The curve of the temples improves comfort and stability by allowing more of the hydrophilic Thermogrip rubber to be in contact with the skin, while leaving room for different types of helmet strap attachments. Also placed on the nose, Thermogrip rubber ‘ensures a perfect grip during the most intense action’.
SHIFTER is available in a wide prescription range (+6 to -8 / cyl-4) and a large choice of tints to cater for a variety of weather and light conditions. Prescription lenses are directly inserted into the shield, ‘ensuring all the frame’s properties and optimal visual acuity guaranteed by NXT material remain’.
Cycling enthusiasts will also have the chance to discover the brand’s road cycling helmet FURO MIPS. This new helmet is billed as being the pinnacle of Bollé’s performance road cycling range. Aerodynamic development, ventilation design, and air flow testing inspired by the automotive industry has led to the creation of this high-end helmet.
FURO’s is recognisable with its two aerodynamic features: ‘a NACA duct allowing increased airflow without additional drag, and a kamm tail providing a smaller wake that reduces the drag for better aerodynamic properties’. For comfort and protection, FURO MIPS features a 360° MIPS integrated brain protection system.
The Santos Tour Down Under is the opening UCI WorldTour event running from 10-20 January 2019. The City of Adelaide Tour Village opened on Saturday 12 January.
