The insurer’s mission it is to get you ‘back on the saddle as fast as possible, so you can ride more and worry less’. It will focus on providing 365-day worldwide cover for accidental damage and theft of bikes, accessories and kit to the national governing body’s 150,000-strong membership.
Thirteen types of events, including sportives, mountain bike and cyclo-cross racing are covered as standard, with road races, criteriums and circuit racing available as optional cover. Standard cover and benefits include:
- Options for family and friends to encourage ride sharing;
- Returning home cover and bike box cover for those on the move; and
- ‘Bikmo Replacements’, a zero excess claim settlement option is also available and supports local bike shops.
The bike cover will come as an optional extra for British Cycling members and will complement the personal £15m third party liability cover and legal support that British Cycling includes in its Commute, Ride, Race Silver and Gold membership packages.
British Cycling’s Commercial Director, Jonathan Rigby, said “As an award-winning insurer and leader in its industry, Bikmo shares our ambitions and values to put the interests of our members at its heart, which provides the foundations of a special relationship for years to come.
“To know that their team consists of passionate cyclists, ranging from performance-driven roadies, national champions, thrill-seeking mountain bikers, parents sharing their passion for cycling with their whole family and every day commuters is particularly exciting, and we look forward to working together.”
David George, CEO and Founder of Bikmo, added “We’re very excited to work with British Cycling to help keep their members in the saddle, by protecting their bikes with our award-winning cover.
“British Cycling has been a huge part of our lives as cyclists, so this is a partnership we’ve worked hard to achieve for many years by consistently doing what we do well. We look forward to helping members ride more, and achieve their goals, however big.”
Originally a bicycle comparison platform, Bikmo launched its cycle insurance product offering in 2014 with insurance partners including Hiscox. Bikmo is positioned as an insurance policy that is ‘straight forward, simple to buy, great value and speaks to cyclists in a language they understand.’
