Citing force majeure and an unstable country situation in Chile, IRONMAN 70.3 Pucón 2020 has been cancelled. Chile itself has witnessed economic and political instability in recent months, with protests and rioting in parts of the country.
The organising team has released a statement, and communicated directly with all athletes…
After consulting with the respective authorities, local and main stakeholders, it was decided to postpone the 2020 edition of the Herbalife IRONMAN 70.3 Pucon triathlon, which was scheduled to take place on January 12.
The Carozzi Kids Challenge and Carozzi Promotional Race, which were scheduled for January 9 and 10, 2020, are also postponed.
Although a decision like this is never easy to make, it is clear that the current situation of the country and the community of Pucón does not allow the safety and quality standards that we require for our participants, volunteers, inhabitants and equipment to be guaranteed.
For more information, participants should check the event website and their email.
Athletes can opt for a full refund, reserve a spot for the 2021 edition of the event, or participate in one of the other IRONMAN events that run in South America. These include destinations such as Bariloche, Campeche, Florianópolis, Punta del Este and Río de Janeiro.
The event will next be held on January 10, 2021, while the Promotional and Kids events will be held on the 7th and 8th of the same month.
Pucón is in central Chile’s Lake District, lying on Lake Villarrica. It is seen an adventure tourism hub, with access to trails, water sports, as well as skiing and snowboarding.
