Challenge Family’s The Championship gets TV and internet livestream

Challenge Family - The Championship 2017

Alongside the iconic Challenge Roth in Germany, The Championship is a showpiece of Challenge Family’s international race calendar. The Championship 2019 takes place in the middle of Europe, on June 2nd 2019 in Samorin, Slovakia.

The livestream at The Championship 2019, follows a similar initiative in 2018. Although, this year sees increased exposure for the broadcast on TV. The updated broadcast also follows hot-on-the-heels of a TV broadcast for the Challenge Roth event.

The The Championship 2019 organising team points to a strong pro field at this year’s event. Coupled with this, Challenge Family will undertake a livestream broadcast of the entire race. This livestream will be broadcasted on both Slovakian and Czech television and via challenge-family.live.

“Challenge Family is #AllAboutTheAthlete and has always championed the support of triathlon fans worldwide to grow our wonderful sport of triathlon,” sid Challenge Family CEO Zibi Szlufcik.

“Our live stream of The Championship 2019 gives those who cannot make it to The Championship in Samorin/Slovakia in the centre of Europe, the chance to follow the pro athletes and age group athletes live as they compete.”

The livestream will begin 30 minutes before the start of the race and will not stop until after the finish. Thanks to this, fans will not only see the race itself, but also all the build-up before the race, the nerves of the athletes and ‘after the finish, all the joy’.

Szlufcik added, “Live streaming the race not only highlights the remarkable pro athletes racing, but also showcases the incredible venue, in addition to the amazing atmosphere of The Championship 2019 as a whole and according to our experience of last year we expect hundreds of thousands watching and setting new standards in triathlon.”

The livestream will be provided with extensive commentary by John Levison and Laura Siddall. Tri247.com Editor John Levison was on commentary duties last year, while Laura Siddall is a pro athlete and ambassador of Challenge Family. During the livestream they will provide race insights, and will provide all spectators with interesting background information.

Richard Ungerhofer, General Manager of the x-bionic sphere resort – the event’s host venue – added “We are absolutely proud to host The Championship for a third consecutive year and support the growth of triathlon worldwide. With over 60 nations racing and a world-class livestream, we will provide the opportunity to share the experience of the athletes with their friends and families globally and showcase the drama of the race as well as the beauty of x-bionic sphere.”

Held on June 2nd, 2019, for professional athletes, The Championship 2019 will carry a minimum €150,000 prize purse. A unique professional qualifying system enables professional athletes to qualify for The Championship 2019 via Challenge Family events worldwide.

Age group athletes have the opportunity to qualify with a top six age group finish at any Challenge Family event worldwide during the qualification period. Top 6 teams in the male, female and mixed categories in relay events will qualify for The Championship at Challenge Family events. Slots roll down in each age group and relay category up to 12th place.

The first qualification race for The Championship was Challenge Wanaka in New Zealand. There were a further 36 other Challenge Family races to qualify before the last opportunity at Challenge Heilbronn in May 2019.
