Countdown to Kyrgyzstan: PEdAL ED supporting Silk Road Mountain Race

Apparel & accessories specialist PEdAL ED is an official sponsor of the Silk Road Mountain Race, which will see 146 riders from 27 nations rolling out from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on 17 August before heading into the deserted mountains to complete a gruelling single-stage cycling race – unsupported.

The Silk Road Mountain Race is an event like no other and can be ridden solo or as a pair. It’s a fixed route mainly on uneven terrain. The clock does not stop, and there are no prizes. The 1700km route passes through three staffed control points and amasses over 27,000m of climbing.

Riders receive a stamp in their brevet card at each point, before heading to the finish line in Cholpon Ata – a beach resort on the north shore of Lake Issyk-Kul – for a well-deserved beer or two. To earn a successful finish ,competitors will need to complete the course before the end of the after-party on August 31st.

PEdAL ED has reached out to the local cycling community to sponsor three riders from Kyrgyzstan providing them with all the kit they need to train for and complete the race.

Jacopo Porreca, PEdAL ED Brand Manager, said “We have a great respect for riders taking on extraordinary challenges in demanding environments. We admire the Silk Road Mountain Race’s ability to give participants a unique experience across largely unexplored territories; it defines a new ultra-distance standard that forges a union between cycling and the outdoor world.”

Nelson Trees, Silk Road Mountain Race Director said “After a first edition that captured the imagination of the bikepacking community, I’m excited to bring people back to this amazing destination. There will be a few changes to the route, but overall it will remain true to the original format.

“We have ambitious plans to publish a series of videos during the event that will share the riders’ experience while also telling the story of some of the highlights of the race from a local perspective. We’re excited to continue our partnership with PEdAL ED and glad that we have their continued support in putting on the race.”
