The inaugural Vélo North, which was due to take place on September 1, 2019 has been cancelled. The organising team have cited difficulty in attracting sufficient riders to take on the course in County Durham, northern England.
There are three options for riders who have paid up their entry fee:
- Donate the entry fee to charity partner Prostate Cancer UK
- Transfer entry to Vélo Birmingham & Midlands (taking place on Sunday June 28, 2020), or
- Claim a refund for the entry fee.
All refunds will be processed by August 8, 2019. However, the Vélo North team notes it is working hard and fast to process refunds before this date.
For those who prefer to defer their place to Vélo North 2020 – not Vélo Birmingham & Midlands 2020 – at this stage the organising team cannot guarantee that Vélo North will take place in 2020 and therefore cannot offer this as an option.
A statement has been released by the organising team…
It is with deep regret that we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the inaugural Vélo North, scheduled to take place on Sunday September 1, 2019.
Despite our best efforts, we were unable to attract sufficient riders to justify the event going ahead. We apologise to everyone who had signed up and was looking forward to taking part – we hope you understand our reasoning and appreciate that this was not a decision we took lightly.
If you entered the event you should have by now received an email detailing how you can claim a refund on your entry fee. If you have not received this and it is not in your junk folder, please email hello[at]velonorth.com. A full copy of our cancellation FAQs can be seen [online] – please review these in full before emailing our Participant Services team with any questions.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Durham County Council for their support throughout the entire planning of this event. We were so excited about the prospect of delivering a Vélo Series event in the North East and are incredibly disappointed it didn’t work out the way we intended.
The Vélo North team.
