Event venue & schedule upgrades for Powerman Mallorca 2019

The upcoming edition of the Ferrer Hotels Powerman Mallorca powered by Felt 2019, which takes place on February 23rd, 2019, is to see some changes to improve the event experience for athletes.

The organising team has confirmed that the 2019 event will see an improved start-finish line. In addition, the transition area will be revamped ‘to offer perfect conditions for the athletes in one of the first international duathlons of the season in Mallorca’.

A number of top duathletes have confirmed their presence in Can Picafort, in the North East of the Spanish island. Athletes will compete in the two race distances: the ‘Classic” race involves 10km running, 60km cycling (no drafting allowed) and 10km running; while the ‘Sprint’ format (5km running, 30km cycling and 5km running) offers up a shorter distance competition.

The schedule of the event has also been modified in order to improve the athletes’ experience. The race weekend starts on Friday, February 22nd at the official hotel (Hotel Ferrer Janeiro) – with the race briefings, expo and pasta party.

There will be a strong pro field with many top class duathletes in attendance. These include Gaël Le Bellec (FR), a three time long distance world champion; Felix Khöler (DE); Diego Van Looy (BE) and Kasper Laumann (DEN). In the female field, Helle Frederiksen (DAN), the 2018 World Champion and the current Half Ironman record holder (3:55:50) is expected to be the favourite.

Ferrer Hotels PowerMan Mallorca Duathlon powered by Felt offers a €5,000 pro prize purse shared among the top ranked at the ‘Classic’ race, and VIP’s vouchers and accommodations for the best duathletes, as well trophies for age group athletes.

Managed by the International Powerman Association (IPA), Powerman, one of the most recognized and demanding world duathlon competitions, originally launched in 1989.

Powerman Mallorca joined the international Powerman circuit in 2016. The event brand is also featuring events in Holland, Malaysia, the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Germany – with a world championship in Zofingen, Switzerland.

Around 400 athletes will compete in in the north of Mallorca, with Can Picafort in Santa Margalid, seen as an ideal race venue throughout the year.
