Italian accessories specialist Rudy Project has added two elite athletes to its roster for 2019. Gwen Jorgensen and Eric Lagerstrom join current IRONMAN American Record Holder Heather Jackson, four-time Olympian Andy Newel, and a slew of other top athletes.
Jorgensen is shifting her focus to distance running after an extremely successful career in triathlon. She won two ITU World Triathlon Series Championships and an Olympic triathlon gold medal in 2016. After the birth of her son, Jorgensen states that she has accomplished her goals in triathlon. Looking forward, she wants to be motivated by new challenges with an emphasis on pursuing a gold medal in the women’s marathon at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“I am excited to announce my partnership with Rudy Project,” said Jorgensen. “I first used Rudy Project sunglasses when I started triathlon. I love the fit, quality, and look.”
Triathlete Eric Lagerstrom, who overcame a setback last year when he broke his foot, still notched several solid races including wins at IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Cruz and Steelhead as well as setting a new course record at Saint Anthony’s.
A passionate triathlete with a penchant for video race blogs, Lagerstrom said, “After talking with the team, trying their latest gear, and hearing about the plans for the future, I was intrigued by Rudy Project. I’m excited for their vision, their plan, and the passion we share for putting energy back into the sport. Keep your eyes peeled for some awesome new stuff from RP this year, in both the content and product scenes. We’re looking to have some fun.”
Jorgensen and Lagerstrom join several elite athletes at Rudy Project, including current IRONMAN American Record Holder, Heather Jackson, triathletes Sarah Piampiano, Ben Kanute and Meredith Kessler, winter sports athletes Jessie Diggins, Sophie Caldwell, and Andy Newell, and cycling teams Bahrain Merida, Marc Pro and TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank.
Rudy Project Director of Sports Marketing, Chris Lupo said, “I could not be more thrilled to welcome Gwen and Eric to the Rudy Project team. Gwen conquered the sport of triathlon, and has now systematically worked her way into distance running’s elite pack. Eric is racing at the highest level of triathlon, while also pushing the boundaries of storytelling through his captivating videos and images.
“Partnering with Gwen and Eric now is particularly exciting because Rudy Project is making significant brand identity improvements for 2019 – with a focus on emphasizing marketing authenticity and the superior quality of our products. Having Gwen and Eric on the Rudy Team will be a huge boost to our brand building efforts.”
