Following on from the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Greece event, at Costa Navarino, in April, the organisers have confirmed the date for the second race: April 5, 2020.
The inaugural 70.3 event – the first of its kind in Greece – welcomed more than 4,500 athletes, visitors and volunteers, from more than 60 countries, to the Peloponnese region in southern Greece earlier this year.
Competitors swam 1.9km in the Ionian Sea, from the golden sands of the Navarino Dunes. They then cycled 90km through picturesque villages, ancient olive groves and pine-covered hills, and completed a half-marathon of 21km alongside beaches towards the finishing line at The Romanos, a luxury resort at Costa Navarino.
Registration for the 2020 event will be open on May 28; and travel and accommodation packages are available from event organiser EYZHN Greece.
Costa Navarino is renowned for its coastal location. The area’s sporting offering includes two golf courses, a race track for go-karting and a 95m2 climbing wall to help climbers prepare for the Messinia cliff faces. Facilities for tennis, squash, football, basketball and bowling make it a destination for any sports enthusiast.
Plenty of water sports are also available in the crystal-clear water of the Ionian Sea and Navarino Bay – including surfing, kite-surfing, wind-surfing, yachting, paddleboarding, waterskiing, wakeboarding, sailing, kayaking, scuba diving and snorkelling. There are also bike rides and hiking spots locally, with opportunities to explore the hills around Navarino Dunes, discover the waterfalls at Kalamari or stroll along the many acclaimed beaches nearby.
