Former pro triathlete, and European crosstri champion, Renata Bucher has been named the new Technical Director for the XTERRA Asia-Pacific Tour.
The 41-year-old Swiss athlete from Lucerne won 34 XTERRA championship races and four XTERRA European Tour titles in her illustrious 15-year career. The ‘Swiss Miss’ is also the most successful racer in the history of XTERRA’s Asia-Pacific region having captured seven XTERRA Saipan titles, XTERRA Guam and XTERRA Philippines three times, XTERRA Malaysia twice, and XTERRA Japan, New Zealand, and Australia once each.
“We are delighted to have Renata in this important new role for the Asia-Pacific region,” said XTERRA President Janet Clark. “Her extensive racing, coaching, and community experience is of great value and will be a huge asset to both organizers and participants. More than that, she is most certainly one of us, and truly exudes the ‘Live More’ spirit of XTERRA.”
Bucher will travel to and be responsible for quality controls at five events in 2019, including the XTERRA Asia-Pacific Championship race in Kenting (March 30), XTERRA New Zealand (April 6), XTERRA Tahiti (May 31), XTERRA Japan (September 15), and the inaugural XTERRA Kunming off-road triathlon in China (September 22).
“It’s a beautiful thing when your career and your passion come together,” said Bucher. “XTERRA has been a big part of my life as a professional athlete racing for Switzerland, and it’s an honour to stay involved with the sport as part of the crew now.
“XTERRA is so unique and so diverse in its locations and cultures. I love connecting with the wonderful people in the region and am excited for this new adventure.”
In addition to verifying that the XTERRA Asia-Pacific Tour race courses are safe and properly marked, Bucher will assist in all aspects of race operations and administration to assure a quality XTERRA event experience. She will also scout new venues, assist in the development of the XTERRA Coaching Certification program, and serve as the elite athlete liaison for the region.
