World Bicycle Relief is celebrating the success of the one-of-a-kind Romance X Parra bike sold in an eBay auction this week, raising £12,600 for the charity.
Independent cycling apparel brand, Romance, teamed up with Dutch artist Piet Parra to produce a one-off, fully customised Specialized S-Works Roubaix bike to be sold at auction online.
The 10-day auction closed on Friday 16 August, raising proceeds for World Bicycle Relief, with the special bike won by Frenchman Geoffrey Baldet. He is now the proud owner of a unique bike, complete with a pro level spec, including a state-of-the-art SRAM RED eTap AXS groupset, Zipp 404 NSW disc-brake wheelset and a Specialized S-Works cockpit.
World Bicycle Relief notes that the winning bid will fund more than 130 Buffalo Bikes for World Bicycle Relief projects in African countries such as Malawi and Zimbabwe.
This fundraising activation follows the previous sell-out success of the limited-edition Romance X Parra cycling jerseys and caps.
Dutch artist Piet Parra is known for his unique post-pop style, which fuses saturated colour blocks, surreal hand-drawn characters, and typography. He’s had gallery exhibitions around the globe, runs his own streetwear label – ByParra – and has collaborated with some of the biggest brands on the planet.
The money raised from the bike auction will directly fund World Bicycle Relief projects in countries such as Malawi, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The charity harnesses the power of bicycles to enable students (70% of whom are girls) to get to school more easily and safely; health workers to visit more patients in a day; and farmers to deliver heavy produce to market before it spoils.
Donations to WBR mean the charity can provide specially designed rugged Buffalo Bikes to break down the barrier of distance for individuals in rural areas of developing countries.

Romance X Parra is the fourth artist collaboration, having previously worked with Camille Walala, Kate Moross and Felipe Pantone.
