Expanding on its push into the US market, Science in Sport (SiS) has announced its sponsorship of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, to be held on June 9, 2019, in San Francisco. Known for fuelling athletes during training, racing and recovery for endurance events, SiS will sponsor the event by supplying on-course and event nutrition and hydration.
Science in Sport ambassador Ben Kanute, a 2016 Olympian and the 2017 and 2018 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion, will return to the race in 2019. Any athlete racing this year’s event can join Kanute for a shake-out run before the race. Additional event details will be released on scienceinsport.com in May 2019.
The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon consists of a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco, an 18-mile bike leg and an 8-mile run through the trails of the Golden Gate Recreational Area. Science in Sport will supply GO Electrolyte Powder and GO Energy Bars to all athletes contesting the event.
“The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is one of the more challenging races with unique distances and terrain, making it one of my top races each year,” said Ben Kanute. “I am excited to return to defend my title. I always make sure i am properly prepared for the race which requires a smart race plan with correct pacing and nutrition – so I can give my best effort to the line. With Beta Fuel in my bottles and Go Energy Bars on the course, Science in Sport fuels me with the most efficient fuel possible.”
