TOUGHMMAN Enterprises has announced the inaugural TOUGHMAN Chile Copiapo triathlon, which will take place in Copiapo, Chile, on May 15th, 2019. The new race is in addition to the new TOUGHMAN Chile Futrono, which kicks off the half iron series in South America on March 31st.
The new event, TOUGHMAN Chile Copiapo, will be run by local firm TriAthletas.CL under the direction of Juan Carlos Olavarria. The addition of Copiapo means that there are now five TOUGHMAN locations for athletes to race in Chile.
TOUGHMAN series owner Dr Richard Izzo, said “2019 will be another year of growth for the TOUGHMAN brand. The South America TOUGHMAN races in Futrono, Arica, Quillon, Iquique and now Copiapo will form the South American circuit with a Championship in Arica in June 2019. These events will qualify athletes to the TOUGHMAN World Championship on September 15th, 2019.”
Izzo, the founder of TOUGHMAN, will be on-site in Chile to meet athletes and stream the races live. According to Izzo, “TOUGHMAN continues to grow in a difficult environment for triathlon, due to having race directors of superior quality that represent the brand. The opportunity to market as a group, attract series sponsors and get cost cutting line items due to scale are all the benefits of joining TOUGHMAN.”
Izzo adds that he is looking for new race locations in new areas that will offer independent race directors this opportunity. All TOUGHMAN races qualify athletes to the TOUGHMAN World Championship on September 15th, 2019 in New York.
The TOUGHMAN Series Championship in Stony Point New York, 20 miles north of New York City, offers over US$30,000 in age-group awards, a US$4,950 cash purse (top 5) for qualifiers, a scenic bike course, and over 1,400 race support volunteers.
