Transiro Infinito R3 – ‘quick-entry, fine-tune fit tri shoe’

Transiro Infinito R3 is a triathlon-specific shoe from fizik that is designed to provide a ‘precise fit for any foot quickly and easily, and allows for a quick foot entry at transition’. fizik adds that the new shoe ‘delivers power transfer efficiency, and remains comfortable, whatever the competition distance and whatever the conditions.’

fizik notes that the Transiro Infinito R3 model has an important position in fizik’s Transiro triathlon range of shoes and saddles – a series that has been created specifically for multisport competition.

Like all fizik footwear, the design and construction are based on leveraging the company’s experience of developing performance road cycling shoes. This has been combined with ‘detailed input and feedback from specialists in their field – and for the Transiro series, that’s high-level professional triathletes.’

First, the fit
The Volume Control system – initially developed for multiple Grand Tour winning road shoes – allows a differentiated fit adjustment for the instep and forefoot areas. This is important because the shape and volume of each area of the foot can vary widely between athletes.

Transiro Infinito R3 combines a Boa dial with a Powerstrap. fizik feels that this offers the ideal balance for triathlon – and specifically athletes who compete at Olympic distance – ‘first a quick, easy and secure closure for speedy, hassle-free T1, then micro-adjustable fine tuning for a precise fit, comfort and efficiency.’

The volume of the forefoot area can be regulated using the Infinito adjustment system with its lace loop controlled by the Boa dial. Infinito balances out the tensioning and further eliminates pressure hot spots by using textile webbing in place of plastic lace guides. This closure system acts on a larger area of the shoe’s upper, pulling the eyestays inwards from all directions for a more supportive and comfortable fit.

Transition
Transition is often referred to as triathlon’s fourth discipline, and saving athletes time and stress at T1 and T2 is part of fizik’s objective with the Transiro Infinito R3.

To ease transition, the instep Powerstrap can be locked in the wide open position ready for quick and easy foot entry. Its lower cut neck has a cushioned flat-seam collar for a smooth sockless foot entry and riding comfort. The heel is equipped with a rubberized loop to facilitate setting the shoes ready clipped into the pedals at T1, and to make it as easy as possible for the athlete to quickly pull feet securely into them.

Materials & technologies
The Transiro Infinito R3’s upper is made from a mesh material that’s flexible to ensure a close fit, and is breathable, aiding with temperature management on the bike leg. The upper is also supportive, thanks to the PU lamination on targeted areas that works with the sole for power transfer.

The race stiff R3 unidirectional full carbon outsole ensures that power is efficiently transferred to the pedals, yet remains lightweight, contributing to the overall low figure of 476g. Based on fizik’s R3 road shoe, the sole has been modified with extra wide ventilation cutouts, boasting even greater breathability than its road counterpart.

“The Transiro Infinito R3 has a central position in our new triathlon shoe range, both in terms of it being ideally suited to Olympic distance athletes and those taking on half iron competitions – and in terms of its use of materials and thus its price point,” said Luca Mathia Bertoncello, fizik’s Brand Director.

“Combining the Boa dial and Powerstrap technology is a very intelligent consideration that we think many triathletes will benefit from.”
