Trek’s new Crockett CX models aim to deliver more value and performance


Trek released a pair of new Crockett models. According to the company, these ‘bring even more value, versatility, and performance to the popular line of aluminum cyclocross bikes.’

The all-new Crockett 4 and Crockett 5 carry forward the race performance that made Crockett ‘the wallet-friendly cross bike of choice for beginners and experienced racers alike’. These now feature updates that improve the riding experience… ‘for anyone who throws a leg over the frame – or throws the frame over their shoulder.’

“Crockett is first and foremost a race bike,” said Trek’s Director of Product for Road Bikes, Jordan Roessingh. “But the great thing about it is its versatility. You can commute on this bike on Friday, race it on Saturday, and ride it on gravel on Sunday. Plus, it won’t break the bank and it has the incredible good looks of a far more expensive carbon bike.”

Those looks are thanks in part to Trek’s Invisible Weld Technology, a joining process that cuts back on weight and delivers carbon-like lines to Crockett’s 300 Series Alpha Aluminum frame. A painted 56cm Crockett frame weighs 1325g.

The new Crockett models have the same Cross Race geometry found on Trek’s OCLV Carbon Boone and older Crockett models. This geometry was developed in partnership with Katie Compton and is ridden by the Telenet Fidea CX team.

The frame accepts a 38c tyre, with Trek’s recommended 4mm of clearance between the frame and yire.

Crockett 4 (US$1499 MSRP) is equipped with flat-mount dual-piston mechanical disc brakes and a SRAM Apex 1×11 drivetrain. Crockett 5 (US$2299 MSRP) now features flat-mount hydraulic disc brakes (an upgrade over last year’s model) and a SRAM Rival 1×11 drivetrain.

Both models have Bontrager Affinity TLR wheels with 21mm inner rim width for traction and tyre support, front and rear thru-axles, a full OCLV Carbon cyclocross fork, Control Freak internal cable routing, and a threaded T47 bottom bracket.

The T47 bottom bracket system uses 47x1mm treading and an 86mm shell width. This allows for a wide bottom bracket stance for strength, stability, and efficiency – all while making service easier. Nearly all common cranks are compatible with this system, and T47 bottom brackets are available from many third-party manufacturers.
