Vi, which is billed as ‘the social running coach’, has launched Rock the World 5K, a virtual race in celebration of Global Running Day on June 5. Runners can register for US$24.99 online; and receive a free 5K training plan in preparation for the race.
Rock the World 5K is powered by Vi, a virtual trainer that coaches runners via ‘fun, audio-guided workouts’. During the race, Vi will share real-time feedback on each runner’s progress to help them run their best. The app will also share community shoutouts such as what country is currently in the lead, and upbeat music to keep runners motivated.
“We’re thrilled to join in on the excitement of Global Running Day by hosting a race anyone, regardless of fitness level or location, can run on their own time,” said Omri Yoffe, Vi’s founder and CEO. “The energetic experience of training and racing with Vi will give you the rush of a real-world race, without the high travel and registration costs of a traditional event.
“It was important to us to replicate the social element of a race into our virtual experience, and did so by integrating community shoutouts and a leaderboard for runners to see how they compare against others.”
Vi’s objective is to bring real-world races to runners everywhere. As part of the virtual race, participants can create a personalized bib and share it on social media by tagging @trainwithvi and using #Vi5K to win prizes. Users can join Vi’s active community on the Rock the World 5K Facebook group to meet other racers, learn tips and tricks and motivate each other for the big event, and receive a virtual medal.
After registering for the race, to receive the free training plan, runners must download the Vi Trainer app in the App Store or Google Play and complete their first run. This will provide Vi with the data needed to create a customized training plan based on personal ability.
Registration is open today through June 5 for US$24.99 at vi5k.com.
