Following a decision of the President of Gdynia in Poland, Wojciech Szczurek, and the world athletics federation – World Athletics – the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020 has been postponed to October 2020. This is due to the growing uncertainty surrounding the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The championships were originally scheduled for March 29 this year. The organising team noted that the current international situation would have a negative impact on the planned competition, taking into account the restrictions and bans on international travel, quarantines and regulations introduced in many countries.
World Athletics and the organizing committee of the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020 have confirmed a new date has been set for October 17, 2020.
The championship event was to be accompanied by a mass participation race with an expected number of over 25,000 participants. It is hoped that ‘the vast majority of these people will run alongside the best athletes in the world on the new date.’
