Expanding multisport remit at Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka

The Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka team has announced a brand new event for 2020. The team has been looking to introduce a multisport event to the line-up and with the date of 28th March becoming available, they felt 2020 was the perfect year to achieve this goal. The multisport event will feature a kayak on the Matukituki River, a 35km mountain bike and 15km trail run.

“The Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka Multi is an exciting new edition to our 2020 programme,” said Bill Roxburgh, Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka Race Director. “We believe there is a strong and committed group of athletes who would love to compete off-road in our beautiful Wanaka area and are keen to bring even more of Wanaka’s magical landscape and terrain to our competitors.

“We will be working hard in the coming months to set this up as there is a short lead-in time, but we are confident with Bill Godsall as Event Director and our dedicated team we can create an amazing event.”

Full course details are being finalised and will be available soon on www.Challenge-Wanaka.com and announced via the Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka social media channels. The race will also hold the 2020 New Zealand Multisport Nationals. Entries will be open from midnight 1st February via the website; and the event will cater for individuals, 2 and 3 person teams and tandem teams.

Tandem kayaks will be available for hire with more details to follow. Individual kayakers and the lead kayaker in the tandem teams will need a Grade 2 kayaking certificate.

On-site registration will take place in Wanaka on Friday 27th March from 16:00 to 21:00 local time. The race will start at 08:00 on the Saturday morning, with the last competitor predicted to finish by 17:00 for the Prizegiving. Entries will be limited and pricing will be announced on 1st February.

“It’s a hugely exciting prospect to see a multisport event revisit the perfect arena on offer around Wanaka,” said local multisport legend Dougal Allen, the current Kathmandu Coast to Coast World Multisport Champion and course record holder for the Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka.

He continued, “I’m thrilled to see the team behind Challenge Wanaka bringing their passion, professionalism and experience into running the event, and have every reason to believe it will be an unforgettable weekend for those involved.”

Challenge Wanaka Race Director Bill Roxburgh added, “The Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka team are always looking to help introduce people to our sports, so we will be looking to run an entry level multisport event in our 2021 festival as well as carrying on bringing you the Integrity Homes Challenge Wanaka Multi.”
