Mallorca 312 cycling race promotes female participation

The goal is to design new joint action strategies in order to increase the number of women participating in the Mallorca 312. That has been the objective of the meeting held between Xisco Lliteras, CEO of the Milestone Series – a new circuit brand of the premium Gran Fondos where the Mallorca 312 is held along with Elena Gómez, area coordinator of the Inclusive Sports of the Fundació per a l’Esport Balear, and Toni Muñoz, director of the Fundació per a l’Esport Balear.

‘In a previous analysis, the Mallorca 312 organization found that 11% of those enrolled in the race were women; a noteworthy number because it is the highest compared to other cycling events in that same category. Despite these high numbers, Xisco Lliteras is not content and seeks to increase the number.’

‘In the ranking of female participants by nationalities for the Mallorca 312, the Russians are the most active with a participation of 31%; followed by the British (14%) and the Germans (14%). The Spanish only account for 7% of the total, a number that must continue to grow. The remaining 34%, belongs to other nationalities.’

Xisco Lliteras, CEO of the Milestone Series said “We are very proud to say that we are one of the cycling events with the highest female participation, but we still have more work ahead. Our objective is to increase the number year after year in the hope that more women will choose to ride their bikes and cycle through our island.

“We are grateful to the Fundació per a l’Esport Balear for their involvement and development of the action program that we want to implement. They have lent us a hand and we are going to work together to achieve this goal.”

This year celebrated the 11th edition for the race and is scheduled to take place on 25 April 2020 in Spain. This event was SOLD OUT just 13 hours after the registration was open and the Platja de Muro, will be the usual starting and arrival point for this event that offers three ‘fantastic’ routes of 312 kilometers, 225 kilometers and 167 kilometers around the island of Mallorca.
