Popular Hawaiian craft brewery, Kona Brewing Company, will be at the finish line for 17,000 runners at the Surf City Marathon on the weekend of February 1-2, 2020. The beer company is on board as the 2020 event’s Official Beer Partner.
“We are thrilled to be teaming up with a premier brand like Kona which shares our passion and commitment to getting outside in the sun and having fun,” said Phyllis Blanchard, Director of Partnerships for the marathon. “This event is a 24-year Southern California tradition, and Kona will help us create an enhanced post-race experience that brings runners, spectators and the community together to celebrate the accomplishment of finishers in the most memorable way.”
The Surf City Marathon is positioned as a convenient destination event – with the expo, start line and finish line festival all taking place just steps away from the sand and oceanfront resorts. Race weekend kicks off with an Active Lifestyle Expo on Friday, February 1 from 13:00 – 19:00 PT, and Saturday, February 2 from 10:00 – 16:00 PT at the main Huntington Beach Parking Lot.
The expo will showcase vendors featuring the latest in running gear, nutrition and fitness apparel as runners pick up their race number and t-shirt.
Returning in 2020, the event weekend will feature two days of running with a beach mile race on the sand on Saturday, February 1 at 11:00. After the race, runners of legal age will find ‘the perfect reward waiting at the finish line’ – Kona Brewing’s top-selling Big Wave Golden Ale.
The main race day begins on Sunday at 06:30 with the marathon, half-marathon and 5k. The event organisers noted that ‘runners enjoy one of the most scenic courses in the United States with spectacular views along the route.’ The event weekend concludes with a finish line festival and Kona beer garden. Each runner will receive one Kona beer to celebrate their achievement.
