The new season of the ITU World Triathlon Series will see the international governing body’s streaming platform, TriathlonLIVE, delivered in partnership with Texaco.
The agreement builds on last year’s tie-in with Havoline, during which World Triathlon broadcast live race coverage alongside a host of exclusive features and interviews, and an archive reaching back through 30 years of racing.
“After its growth and success last year, we are thrilled that World Triathlon’s OTT platform is able to go one step further in such a huge year for our sport,” said ITU President and IOC member Marisol Casado.
“Working in conjunction with a global brand like Texaco means we will be able to broaden TriathlonLIVE’s reach and scope even further. Last season we opened new doors in terms of our capacity to deliver live coverage not just from the World Series but from World Cups and beyond. This year our ambitions are to go beyond once again in terms of the quality and quantity of our content.”
As well as in-house production of a host of 2019 ITU World Cups, the TriathlonLIVE channel’s revamp at the start of last year ensured World Triathlon was able to reach agreements to show last year’s XTERRA World Championships, Super League Triathlon and Norseman events.
This took the total number of events covered to 96. With the Tokyo Olympic Games on the horizon, ITU notes that the race for qualification across the coming months ensures that 2020 will be another crucial year on the platform.
“Texaco is delighted to be associated with such a highly respected international federation as World Triathlon, its high-performance athletes and, specifically, the ground-breaking TriathlonLIVE platform,” said James Welchman, Manager Marketing EMEA, Chevron Lubricants.
“As well as being one of the fastest growing sports in the world, triathlon and multisport manage to be both aspirational and accessible to all, and Texaco looks forward to playing its own part in bringing even more people into the World Triathlon family in the future.”
After the postponement of WTS Abu Dhabi, the World Triathlon Series will get underway in Bermuda on 18 April. Before then, with Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification points on the line, World Cups in Mooloolaba, Sarasota, New Plymouth and Brasilia will have live action streamed exclusively on TriathlonLIVE.tv.
This year, TriathlonLIVE will once again feature all of the action from the World Triathlon Series and the Edmonton Grand Final World Championship decider, as well as the World Paratriathlon Series events and the Paratriathlon World Championships, the Almere Multisport World Championships and a full schedule of World Cups.
Viewers will be able to watch even more events from the wider triathlon family, including some Continental Cups and events, Norseman, XTERRA World Championships, Super League and Challenge Roth.
